Monday: Complete both sides of the prompt worksheet handed out in class. Make sure you do thorough brainstorms for the 2 chosen prompts.
Tuesday: Complete the literary terms review sheet.
Wednesday: Complete reading practice/multiple choice/open response brainstorm.
Thursday: No HW for Needham Unplugged. READ!
Friday: READ over the weekend.

(Remember, MCAS are coming up 3/18-20...you need really need something to read over that time period-so get a book on deck.)

Write in your Writer's notebook 3 times. You may write any genre (fiction, poetry, essay...). Sit down 3 separate times for at least 10-15 minutes and write! You may type them and paste into your WNB if you prefer. You may work on one longer piece, but it must be over 3 pages long. See Ms. P if you are having trouble coming up with ideas.

Due Tuesday:
Read (and reread) "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros and take at least 5-10 detailed active reading notes (remember sample B from class!).
Due Thursday:
4 vocabulary from your independent book: POS, definition, sentence
Due Friday:
Book Talk Time! Fill out form and prepare to do your book talk in the library. Practice a few times ahead of time. Don't leave this until Thursday night! Bring the book if you have it, but it is not necessary.
Your October reading log will be collected on Monday, November 4.

Fill out the Venn diagram from "A Letter from the Fringe" comparing and contrasting the ICIs and the fringe group.

4 vocabulary words from independent reading (POS, definition and sentence)
You will have a short writing assignment that will be assigned on Wednesday due Friday: Choose a passage (2-4 sentences) from "A Letter from the Fringe" that you think is important in some way. Rewrite it on the sheet. Then explain why you chose that passage (in 4-6 sentences). (You may type this if you prefer)

Reading log due Wednesday, October 2. You need to fill out the books you have read, along with the page counts, and have a parent/guardian signature. If you have only finished part of a book write down the # of pages in the end date and then add it on to your October log.

Do a freewrite -write for at least 10 min on any nonfiction topic (you may continue the one from class)

Friday Field trip! Don't forget your bag lunch and sneakers/boots

Take some notes from your book and keep them in your binder (you may type them if you prefer):
1. Find at least three separate lines/phrases (groups of words) from your book, write each down and explain why you chose it (foreshadowing, figures of speech, interesting dialogue, etc)
2. Find at least four interesting vocabulary words in your book. Write down the word, part of speech, definition, and use each in your own original sentence.
Bring these to class with you on Friday! We will meet in the library.

"Litany" metaphor poem
Make sure it is completed, mounted on construction paper, and includes a picture of you. Please hand in the brainstorm/rubric with it.
Due Friday:
Read the independent reading letter and sign the bottom portion of the rubric. Have your parent/guardian do the same.
Complete the entire reading survey. Be sure to follow directions and write/type your answers on a separate sheet of paper.
Extra copies of all items are on the handouts page.
Read 20+ minutes each night and bring your book to class with you each day!
